Talk to a public procurement expert

Can you tender without previous experience?

Solvency

Of course, you can launch yourself to a public tender without having previous experience in that world. I mean, I'm not going to lie to you: it's not like going to buy bread, but nobody is born knowing, right? The important thing is not to enter blindly and, above all, not underestimate paperwork. Because yes, there is paperwork. A lot.

First, before going crazy filling forms, you have to read everything that the tender asks you. And when I say, I say, with capital letters. Nothing to scan on top and assume that "more or less" it was clear to you. The sheets are usually full of details and technicalities that, if you jump them, can leave you out before you start. So patience and, if you get stuck, seek help - I want to ask what to put the leg.

When you have to put together the proposal, even if you have no experience in tenders, try to notice that you know about your sector. Talk about what you do well, your resources, your team ... put everything that adds points. Do not invent curriculum, but it presumes what you can. In the end, what they are looking for is people who know how to do the job and do not disappear halfway.

And beware of the award criteria. The one that throws the lowest price does not always win. Many times they look at the quality of your proposal, your ability to fulfill deadlines, if you have innovative ideas ... come on, you are looking for something beyond simply saving a few euros.

Now, don't forget the legal part. You have to have the papers in order: licenses, certificates, comply with issues of equality, demonstrate that you are not going to break in two days ... all that. They may ask for previous experience, but many times what they care is to be solvent and reliable. If you manage to convince them of that, you have possibilities.

Of course, do not discourage yourself if the first time does not come out. This is like any competition: you learn by putting the leg, refining the aim and trying again. Each tender leaves you a lesson and, over time, you are refining the smell for what they are looking for.

Anyway, throwing a tender without experience is possible, although it is not a walk in the park. Find out well, put together a powerful proposal, have the papers ready and, above all, learn from each attempt. Who knows, you just end up earning sooner than you think.
