Among the functions entrusted to CENSYRA is to provide technical support to the programmes for the breeding of indigenous and threatened races and to the programmes for the genetic improvement of the livestock farms of Castilla y León, in collaboration with the associations of breeders responsible for the Genealogical Books and the breeding programs. Genetic identification and the establishment of paternity tests ensure the reliability and credibility of the genealogical books in the different animal races. The filiation analysis is a genetic test used to check the descent (pedigree) of an individual. The methods used for this type of test are currently based on the analysis of highly polymorphic DNA markers, such as microsatellites. In January 2005, the Molecular Genetics Laboratory came into operation in CENSYRA, with the main activity being the analysis of paternity / filiation in the ovine, caprine, bovine and equine species using microsatelite techniques (STR). In recent years, molecular genetics techniques have undergone a profound transformation. These new techniques require large investments in equipment, which can only be amortised by means of economies of scale by centralizing the analysis of a large number of samples in very few laboratories, for this reason at CENSYRA, we have stopped doing the filiation tests. After a first positive experience during 2020 and in years following the present date, in order to continue to provide the service of filiation and genetic identification to the breeding programmes of Castilla y León, it is considered necessary to hire the analysis of filiation and genetic identification to an external molecular genetics laboratory. With this recruitment we can continue to provide the service at a much lower cost and without having to invest in laboratory equipment, which at the rate of growth of molecular genetics technology will soon become obsolete. This contract corresponds to actions or benefits arising from the execution of a supporting memory approved prior to 31 December 2024 provided for in Article 3.2 of Decree 28 / 2024 of 26 December, which regulates the conditions for the extension of the General Budget of Castilla and León for 2025, as it is essential for the proper performance of the functions of the administrative units..
